AWPI OSHA Compliant Instructor Certification "Train the Trainer"
For Forklift (Powered Industrial Truck) Instructors

AWPI Forklift Operator Instructor Training, for PIT (Powered Industrial Trucks) can either be performed at your site, using your equipment or at our training facility. We also train for special attachments. The training consists of a combination of formal instruction (eg. lecture, discussion, interactive computer learning, video and written material); practical training (demonstrations performed by the trainer and exercises performed by the trainee); and evaluation of the operator’s performance in the workplace. AWPI OSHA Compliant training programs are offered specifically for you to meet the OSHA legal requirements and the Guidelines set by your insurance companies so that your instructors are able to make sure all of your operators are in compliance with certification requirements.

This is a one-day class on becoming an AWPI Certified “Qualified” Trainer. A qualified person is one who, by possession of a recognized degree, certificate, or professional standing, or by extensive knowledge, training, and experience, has successfully demonstrated his/her ability to solve or resolve problems related to the subject matter, the work, or the project.

Upon completion, the student is issued an identification card and diploma - valid for three years. The training meets or exceeds the standards outlined by OSHA, standards 29CFR1910.178. OSHA Requires 3 part training.

Classroom:
  • OSHA Requirements 29CFR1910.178
  • Pedestrian Awareness
  • Stability
  • Lock out / Tag out Procedures
  • Proper Transporting of Loads and Proper Stacking
  • Refueling
  • Review of all 5 classes of Forklifts Safety Procedures
  • Recognizing Hazards
  • Review of Laws and Regulations Statstics
Written Test:
  • A review of all material covered in classroom portion
Practical:
  • Pre-shift Inspection routine, proper checklist description
  • Review Forklift mechanics
  • Hands-on individual proficiency (making sure each person is comfortable operating forklift and any associated attachments, if applicable)

The Following is a suggested list of attributes a trainer will need in order to successfully educate operators:

Skills and Knowledge :
● Must know the rules, regulations and standards
● Needs to have knowledge of the equipment, the operator safety manual, warning decals and placards
● Possesses awareness of potential hazards and the means to protect against identified hazards
● Be able to identify and avoid potential workplace hazards
● Knows the consequences of improper use and application of the equipment
● Has a good safety record that is based on consistent implementation of the rules

Communication :
● Possesses good communication and presentation skills when speaking with groups or individuals
● Knows and understands the teaching methods and learning styles of adult learners
● Be able to obtain acknowledgement from the operator that he/she can implement the training
● Has the ability to deliver training in a manner and language appropriate to ensure understanding by the audience

Qualities :
● Possesses a concern for the welfare of others so trainers can serve as a safety advocate
● Be intuitive and perceptive with people, i.e. can ‘read’ the audience
● Works in a confident and honest manner with people

● Training CD or USB Memory Stick
● Booklet including OSHA regulations and Safe driving instructions
● Stability model
● Written test documentation (forms to be filled out by Trainer)
● Practical documentation (forms to be filled out by Trainer)

Delivered at your site, using your equipment, our ‘site-specific’ training consists of a combination of Formal instruction (eg., lecture, discussion, written material, written test), Practical training (demonstrations performed by the AWPI trainer and exercises performed by the trainee), and Evaluation of the operator instructor trainee performance in the workplace.

This is a one-day class on becoming a “Qualified” Trainer. A qualified person is one who, by possession of a recognized degree, certificate, or professional standing, or by extensive knowledge, training, and experience, has successfully demonstrated his/her ability to solve or resolve problems related to the subject matter, the work, or the project.
