Boom Lift - MEWP Safety Training

Training at Your Site or Ours - We Test and Certify Your Operators

AWPI Boom Lift Operator Training can either be performed at your site, using your equipment or at our Atlanta based training facility. The training consists of a combination of formal instruction (eg. lecture, discussion, and written material); practical training (demonstrations performed by the trainer and exercises performed by the trainee); and evaluation of the operator’s performance in the workplace. AWPI programs are offered specifically for you to meet the ANSI legal requirements and the guidelines set by your insurance company's requirements.

This is a four hour class on becoming an AWPI Certified Operator. A qualified person is one who, by the possession of a recognized degree, certificate, or professional standing, or by extensive knowledge, training, and experience, has successfully demonstrated his/her ability to solve or resolve problems related to the subject matter, the work, or the project.

Upon completion, the student is issued a Certified Operator card which is also an identification card that lists training dates, expiration dates, and the Certifying organization (AWPI) contact information. The training meets or exceeds the standards outlined by ANSI A92.2 Standards for Mobile Elevated Work Platforms.

  • ANSI A92.2 Standards
  • OSHA Requirements 1926.453
  • Pedestrian Awareness
  • Stability
  • Lockout / Tag-out Procedures
  • Proper Transporting of Loads and Proper Stacking
  • Refueling
  • Recognizing Hazards
  • Review of Laws and Regulations Statistics

Written Test:

  • A review of all material covered in the classroom portion

Practical:

  • Pre-shift Inspection routine, proper checklist description
  • Review Boom lift mechanics
  • Hands-on individual proficiency (making sure each person is a comfortable operating lift)

    Delivered at your site, using your equipment, our ‘site-specific’ training consists of a combination of Formal instruction (eg., lecture, discussion, interactive computer learning, videotape, written material), Practical training (demonstrations performed by the trainer and exercises performed by the trainee), and Evaluation of the operator’s performance in the workplace.


    Proposed is a 1 day class on becoming a "Qualified” Trainer.  A qualified person is one who, by the possession of a recognized degree, certificate, or professional standing, or by extensive knowledge, training, and experience, has successfully demonstrated his/her ability to solve or resolve problems related to the subject matter, the work or the project. 


    Following is a suggested list of attributes a trainer will need in order to successfully educate operators:


    Skills and Knowledge

    • Must know the rules, regulations, and standards
    • Needs to have knowledge of the equipment, the operator safety manual, warning decals, and placards.
    • Possesses awareness of potential hazards and the means to protect against identified hazards.
    • Be able to identify and avoid potential workplace hazards.
    • Understands manufacturer’s guidelines for proper/improper use and application of the equipment.
    • Knows the consequences of improper use and application of the equipment.
    • Has a good safety record that is based on consistent implementation of the rules. 

    Communication:

    • Possesses good communication and presentation skills when speaking with groups or individuals.
    • Knows and understands the teaching methods and learning styles of adult learners.
    • Has the ability to deliver training in a manner and language appropriate to ensure understanding by the audience.

    Qualities:

    • Possesses a concern for the welfare of others so trainers can serve as a safety advocate.
    • Be intuitive and perceptive with people, i.e, can ‘read’ the audience.
    • Works in a confident and honest manner with people. 


    Upon completion, the Instructor is issued an AWPI identification card and diploma - valid for three years. The training meets or exceeds the standards outlined by OSHA standards 1926.453 and ANSI/SIA for scaffolding A92.3/A92.5 .
